Hi Nos. I detest notifications. I choose what I want to be exposed to and when that exposure takes place. That's how I manage the flow of info into my brain from social media. I cancel-mute-neutralize social media built-in algorithms that seek to pigeonhole us by methodically inserting variety into my daily menu of whatever I "consume" online. About joy and happiness... They're strictly subjective. Your joy could be my grief and viceversa. And let's not forget some people thrive in their misery.

This is SUCH good stuff. This has also been on my mind lately. I am very attached to my phone, from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to bed... sometimes I even take it with my to the bathroom (TMI?!). Some great practical tips here. I especially like the one about selecting one news source and sticking to it. I like ABC's Start Here podcast. It's around 20 minutes and focuses on the main news story of the day, a brief recap of the second headline and closes with a fun human interest type story. There's a slight lefty slant (which I will admit I am totally fine with), but overall it's fact based and not sensationalist. Just the right balance for my daily commute. Now, if I can stay away from all the other sources I think I will be much happier. Thanks for putting together this piece!
